Our first real day of cycling.
I remember waking up this morning, half-wondering if my legs would already be aching from yesterday's short cycle. I felt that I hadn't done as much 'training' as I should've, but thankfully there were no signs of pain.
We began our ritual of packing our things up to be taken away on the van, had a hearty breakfast, and off we were..
..at least once Jack found whatever he was rummaging for!
One of the first beautiful sights of the trip. I think a few of us would have chanced a detour if we didn't have the thought of a thousand more miles looming over our heads. Unfortunately I can't quite pinpoint what the island was!
A large portion of our cycling today was on quiet roads with not much to see on either side..
..but we did occasionally feel a little less claustrophobic!
We made our way to our first cafe stop. Most of us had arrived at different times, but I was glad I managed to keep up for the most part - at least enough to join a few others for a quick lunch!
A quick descent brought us to a short ferry ride.
A really short ferry ride.
We faced an extremely steep climb afterwards, but Dave and Ray here look unstoppable!
Ray has a handy side-view mirror attached to his helmet. It looks a bit odd, but I imagine saves the inevitable swerving that comes with a turn of the head to make sure you're not in the path of a larger vehicle.
More sheltered riding
Some more climbing, and we arrived at our second cafe stop.
One great thing about the group so far is how willing people seem to be to wait for others.
Confirming that you're still on the right track is a side-benefit!
