Day 9 - Hawes to Wetheral

We've crossed the border of Cumbria!

The day started with a wet ride through Eden Valley, with the Lake District Fells on our left and the Pennines to the east. It was to be a flat-ish 60 miles to Wetheral (near Carlisle) so I decided to spend some time at my own pace today. Along the way, there were the usual cafe stops but I thought I'd appreciate the extra time to laze around the hotel so I sprinted onwards! This effort was of course helped by the foresight I had to stuff four cereal bars on my top tube bag.. (one of the most useful purchases before the trip!)

The sun came out as we approached Carlisle, which was a nice treat to keep me going. I ended up arriving first at a quarter past 2 - loads of time to spare! Unloaded the things I was carrying on me, and started looking for some grub..

It was still quite warm outside so I asked for a toastie and soup to-go from one of the cafes nearby. Sat my tired arse down on one of the benches in the centre of the village and waited for our van to arrive..

Now all settled in my room with my things and having a cup of hot chocolate. Very tempted to check out the steam room and jacuzzi in our hotel tonight!
