Day 8 - Outlane to Hawes

The Wall

It's been tough making my way to Hawes today. The moors in the mist do bring a sense of serenity but even then there's only so much climbing you can cope with!

With that said, we tackled the famous cobble stone climb in Haworth. Great fun trying to race up that, but a very bumpy ride! Don't think I'll be starting a family any time soon..

Quick stop for a corned beef and pickle toastie in Skipton and then we were off for the second half of the day. We did hang around for a bit too long checking out one of the bike shops for things - I've been tempted to get a rear-view mirror just because it seems like it would be handy to be able to look behind you with a simple tilt of the head. None in stock though.

Climbing the second big hill of the day (Fleet Moss, one of the top 10 hardest climbs in the UK - at least in reverse..) and looking back to see what we'd just done was amazing. A huge 20% descent afterwards but anything above 35mph gets me a little too nervous!

It's been a long hard day finishing at quarter past 5 but still a great time having a chat about it later in the pub.

Glad that's over for now. Late start tomorrow (9:30am) so at least we'll get to sleep in a bit..

Had to go back down for this pic!

Bob replacing a defective tyre..

Magnificent view from the top
